Athletes tend to push their bodies to the extreme during intense exercises. The body is being stressed as the athlete continuously performs intense exercises he or she is in. As you stress the body during exercises, the body needs to allow itself to recover right after. Proper nutrition allows the body to go through the recovery it needs. If an athlete does not receive the proper nutrition he or she needs recovery can not be possible; thus causing negative outcomes implemented on the body. Lets review some outcomes that can happen due to an athlete not having proper nutrition:

- Athletes can have a weak performance. If they do not receive proper nutrition from macronutrients they are losing the ability to gain energy. By not obtaining energy, they wont have strength during the performance of the exercise.
- The recovery period will last longer if nutritional requirements are not met after completing an intense exercise
- Not eating a well-balanced diet of including carbohydrates and protein can suppress the immune system. High hormonal stress levels during exercise can also cause impairment of the immune system as well.
- Without proper nutrition it is possible for an athlete to have weight changes. The occurrence of gaining weight or losing at a quick rate is possible depending on the outlook of the exercise.
- In particular, female athletes can begin to show the characteristics of the "Female Athlete Triad" if they have poor nutrition. This consists of disordered eating, low bone density, and menstrual problems.
